The Magic of Heddon Valley Circular Walk
A gentle walk through the woods along the Heddon River, with magnificent Exmoor hills either side, and leading to a rocky bay surrounded by towering cliffs! Heavenly!
This walk is rated as 'accessible' for mobility scooters, pushchairs etc.
The walks starts and finishes at the Hunter's Inn, a family-friendly pub/restaurant in a Swiss Chalet style. Walk down the lane to the right which leads to a path along the river, which is more like a delightful babbling brook, with trees and soaring hills on both sides. You'll pass an enchanting space that resembles a fairy grotto. If you're lucky, you may see an otter, or at certain times of the year, herons. The only sounds to be heard? The gurgling river and singing birds.
There are actually two bridges over the river at strategic points, and paths on either side, so you can go down one side and back up the other.
As you approach the sea, the valley opens up, and you see beautiful heather adorning the slopes in August, and bright yellow gorse in Autumn.
The path reaches the end at a 19th century kiln, with a lovely viewing point down onto the rocky pebble beach, or up to the cliffs. You can enjoy the waves crashing against the rocks. If you're agile, you can clamber over the rocks to the beach--a wonderful place for a picnic.
Now it's time to retrace your steps back up the valley, enjoying the different vistas in this direction. And then of course, it's time for refreshments--a meal or a snack at the Hunter's Inn or a simple ice-cream. Before leaving, you may want to take a look at the National Trust Shop just up the road from the Inn.

This walk is classified as 'accessible' so therefore suitable for pushchairs and mobility scooters. But please note, to keep to the accessible path, please follow the National Trust map below.
