Charming Picturesque Clovelly
Clovelly is an old 14 century village that tumbles down the side of the cliff to the harbour below. The hillside is so steep that there are no cars in the village, and goods are transported up and own on sleds! With its cobbled streets and quaint, historic cottages the village offers a glimpse into a different era gone by.
The main street through the village is appropriately called 'Up a Long' or 'Down a Long,' and what goes down must come up, so visitors need to be prepared for a very steep climb back up to the car park! The side streets offer more picturesque treasures in this unique village.
The village is actually privately owned and there is a small entrance fee. Your entrance fee includes:
• Entry to the village
• Parking
• Entry to Clovelly Court Gardens
• Entry to the Fisherman’s Cottage and Kingsley Museum
• Audio-visual experience
• General Facilities
• Great access to the walks and picnic spots surrounding the area
Your entry fee also goes towards our tree planting and conservation initiatives that you can see around the village.
The villagers of Clovelly run a number of workshops and events throughout the year to enable you to experience the town’s historic and gentle way of life while also learning a new skill. Pot making, sewing, knitting, painting, soap making, candle making and more are all on offer to visitors.
The donkeys are a big attraction, especially for children, and when not roaming around the village are kept in ancient stables near the visitor centre.
